This Bake Up 4 Make-Up we are very excited to announce that Jayne Cross - baker and food stylist extraordinaire – will be teaming up with us!
Impressively, Jayne has written and developed recipes for a wide range of clientele and has even published 2 books, as well as working on shows such as the Great British Bake Off.
Jayne has created an exclusive lip-smacking cookie recipe for you all to try, which you can download and we'll be popping a copy in your fundraising packs. It might be just the inspiration you are looking for when planning your bake sale.
But who’s the lady behind the apron strings? We asked Jayne a few questions about herself so that we could get to know a little bit more about this inspirational woman…
What is the story behind your beginnings as a baker/ food stylist?
I was a fashion buyer for 10 years and then had my second child, Megan. I decided on a change of career and so went back to college to do a City and Guilds Diploma in Professional cookery. I then worked as a chef in a local restaurant before embarking on my career as a food stylist and writer. I’ve always loved baking, and, for each of my kid’s birthdays, I began to get more and more adventurous with their cakes. So I went back to college once more to study cake decorating and haven’t looked back since.
What is the most memorable moment of your career to date?
The publication of my second book Anti-Gravity cakes last year.
What inspired you to be involved with LGFB?
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016. I underwent a mastectomy which was then followed up with 6 rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. A friend told me about LGFB and so I went along to a workshop at Barts hospital. It was such a lovely afternoon and I got some great make up tips, just at the time when my eyebrows and eyelashes had fallen out so was feeling a little low. It was a great pick me up and helped me to feel more like my old self again - I also came away with the most amazing goody bag! I think it is such a great charity, doing something really lovely for women, and now men, at a time when your life seems completely consumed by hospital appointments, drugs and doctors. So, I wanted to show support for them, by getting involved in the Bake Up 4 Make-Up campaign.
What is your ‘go to’ recipe if you want a little pick-me-up?
For a treat it would be cranberry flapjacks - quick and easy to make and full of oats and dried cranberries so a healthier treat than some.
