Dealing with Your Emotions

The word “cancer” can be quite emotive for some people, particularly if someone close to you is being treated or if you have suffered the loss of a loved one.  Only you can decide whether you feel able to volunteer and it’s for this reason that we invite new volunteers to observe a session first.

Observing a session enables you to sit to one side and take everything in. If you find your feelings and emotions overwhelming, then you are free to leave at any time.  Just quietly excuse yourself and let LGFB know.  However, we find the majority of people who observe workshops find the experience thoroughly rewarding and uplifting and most can’t wait to go back again.

From time to time we all need a little extra support and our friends at Macmillan Cancer Support are always on hand to assist anyone struggling with their feelings around cancer.  They can be reached at 0808 808 00 00 or online at

Many of the hospitals/cancer centres LGFB operates in will have staff on hand who are very willing to discuss any concerns you may have.  Ask a member of the host venue team to point you in the right direction.

Failing all of the above, please do call LGFB for a chat about how you are feeling.

Remember! The LGFB workshops are designed to be a fun, uplifting experience for all involved.
